Arresting personality and matchless performance were the assets of Kannamba. With her performance she became a favourite artiste of the Telugu and Tamil audiences. There was no match for Kannamba in portraying the role of 'mother.' Kannamba was born in 1912 in Cuddapah district. She was introduced to the film industry through 'Harischandra' in 1935. She pleased the audiences with her performance as Chandramathi in her first film itself. Later she played many roles in several films like 'Grihalakshmi', 'Chandika', 'Thalli Prema', 'Sumathi', 'Palnati Yuddham', 'Raja Makutam', 'Thodi Kodallu' and 'Manohara'. She played many important roles for three decades from 1935. Especially, when Kannamba was delivering dialogues in a mother's character, the audiences used to shed tears in the theatre. Whenever she delivered an emotional dialogue, the audiences were also emotionally surcharged. Later, she turned a producer along with her husband Kadaru Nagabhushanam and established Rajarajeswari Films company. She had produced over 30 films under the banner and almost all the artistes of yesteryear had a chance to act in her films. Kannamba passed away in 1964 in Madras.
