K.Raghuramaiah: He was popularly known as “Eelapata Raghuramaiah”.Since he had the ability to sing padyams and songs through whistle, by putting his finger in mouth and producing the whistle or flute sound. He was famous for the roles of Sri Krishna or Dushyantha or Bhavani sankara, Narada etc. He performed I those roles for about 60 years. He indulged in elaborate raga alapana, based on Hindustani ragas while rendering padyams.He acted as Sri Krishna in the film “Sri Krishna Rayabaram” made in early 60’s and in the film “Chintamani” featuring Bhanumathi. He acted in other films also, in which he sang the usual verses in his usual drama style. He was awarded ‘Padmashri’ by Govt of India.One of his favorite songs is "Rama neela meghasyama Kodandarama raghukulabhi soma parandhama sarvabhouma"....He is also one of the singers who accompanied S.P.Balasubrshmaniam in Sri sri sri Maryada Ramanna(SPB first song)
Telugu singing star, born in Guntur, AP. Original name: Venkatasubbaiah. Developed a characteristic singing style combining it with whistling (later even whistling classical Carnatic tunes, which gave him his popular name of 'Eelapata' Raghuramaiah). Joined Telugu theatre aged 8, playing Raghurama in the mythological play Bbakta Ramadas. In 1928 he acted the female role of Shakuntala in front of Rabindranath Tagore, who called him Andhra Nataka Kokila. With his second film, Kuchela, became known for acting Krishna, later adding the role of Narada to his repertoire.
